How to Build an AI-Powered Newsletter

By day, I'm knee-deep in code building the backend for OpenClaw, helping three distinct brands scale without burning out their teams. By weekend, I'm ripping dirt tracks on my BMX bike, hunting for the perfect line and learning that if you don't commit to the jump, you crash.

I’m Billy, by day I code backend for OpenClaw, helping three brands scale. By night, I ride BMX, focusing on the line and not getting stuck in the mud.

Tools and Setup

Most folks think building a newsletter means staring at a blank screen until 3 AM. Not me. I use AI to remove friction so I can focus on what matters—strategy, voice, connection. Here’s how:

The Philosophy: Automation Over Inspiration

Content creation isn’t about inspiration; it's about removing obstacles. My goal is to automate the process without losing soul.

The Tech Stack: Why These Tools?

Simplicity rules:

Content Strategy

  1. OpenClaw: Manages three brands, ensuring context and brand voice consistency.
  2. Claude: Primary writer with natural voice, perfect for deep dives.
  3. Gemini: Scours web for relevant data, feeding Claude.
  4. n8n: Connects everything.

The Workflow: Step-by-Step

Here’s my 15-minute Tuesday routine:

Step 1: Trigger (n8n) Set up an n8n workflow to run every Monday at 9 AM, starting OpenClaw's protocol.

Step 2: Scrape (Gemini) OpenClaw passes keywords to Gemini, which gathers top stories from RSS feeds, Twitter/X, industry news, and Reddit.

Step 3: Draft (Claude) Gemini’s data flows back through OpenClaw to Claude. Pre-loaded templates ensure brand-specific tone.

Step 4: Review (Human-in-the-Loop) Quick read-through for tweaks. Not writing; curating.

Why This Matters

Step 5: Distribution (OpenClaw) Final HTML pushed to email provider, segmented and A/B tested.

Why This Works

Shared logic, distinct execution. OpenClaw ensures context, letting me focus on growth or riding.

The Mindset Shift

AI isn’t a replacement; it’s like having a suspension fork—absorbs the bumps so you can stay focused.
